Description
The Large Metal is the full-size Aviator, the outline Ray-Ban drew for US Army Air Corps pilots in 1937 and has left largely alone ever since.
Gold throughout the frame, with the double bridge, clear adjustable nose pads and clear temple tips. The lens sits as a pale silver mirror across the top and warms down into brown through the lower half, so it flashes from the outside and stays warm to look through.
These are Chromance lenses, named on the front of the right lens and etched inside the rim, polarised and tuned for contrast. The filter cuts reflected glare off water, wet road and car bonnets, which is a difference you notice driving or on the boat rather than one you can see in the lens. At 62mm this is the widest of the three Large Metal fits.
