Description

Gold and green is the Aviator as first sold, built in 1937 to a US Army Air Corps brief for a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. This is that pairing in the narrow width.

The frame is polished gold through the wire rims, the double bridge and the temples, with clear temple tips warming to a faint amber at the hinge and clear adjustable nose pads.

The lenses are G-15 green, the classic Ray-Ban tint, dark enough to read almost black from the outside and neutral enough to look through that colours hold their proper shape. At 55mm this is the smallest of the Large Metal widths, so the teardrop sits closer to the face than the 58mm and 62mm versions and reads less oversized on a narrower head.

About Ray-Ban
Ray-Ban began in 1937 with a commission from the US Army Air Corps: build a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. The result became the Aviator, and the Wayfarer followed in 1952, two of the most recognised and most copied designs in eyewear history. Nearly a century on, the icons remain in production largely unchanged while a new generation of designs, from bio-based frames to the sculptural Puffer series, keeps the catalogue moving. Few brands span military kit, film wardrobes and everyday essentials in the same breath.
