Description
The Aviator started as a 1937 commission from the US Army Air Corps for a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. The Large Metal is that teardrop at full size, and this is the two-tone version of it.
The lens rims are black while the double bridge and the temples stay arista gold, so the outline reads dark and the hardware reads warm. Black temple tips and clear adjustable nose pads finish it.
The lenses are a vintage gradient, dark smoke across the brow washing out to a pale grey-green at the bottom edge. Because the tint lifts as it drops, your eyes stay visible through the glass and the shade sits where the sun actually is.
