Description
The Aviator has been in the Ray-Ban line since 1937, when it was drawn for US Army Air Corps pilots who needed a lens they could trust against glare at altitude. Teardrop lens, thin wire rim, a straight bar across the top of the front.
Gunmetal is a flat grey finish, cooler and more muted than the gold, and it runs through the rims, the top bar and the wire temples, which finish in black tips. The Yellow lens is a soft pale yellow you can see straight through, closer to a warm filter than a dark sun lens, so it lifts flat and overcast light rather than shutting bright light down.
The frame is metal and the lenses block 100% of UV.
