Description

The Aviator is where Ray-Ban started, built in 1937 against a brief from the US Army Air Corps for a lens pilots could trust at altitude. The teardrop shape, the double bridge and the thin wire temples have not meaningfully changed since.

A gold frame with the Green Classic G-15 lens is the original combination. G-15 is neutral, so it dims without recolouring what you are looking at, which was the point of it for pilots reading instruments and is still the point of it now.

This is the 62mm, the widest of the Aviator Large Metal fits. The metal frame carries adjustable nose pads, so the bridge can be set rather than left to sit where it lands.

About Ray-Ban
Ray-Ban began in 1937 with a commission from the US Army Air Corps: build a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. The result became the Aviator, and the Wayfarer followed in 1952, two of the most recognised and most copied designs in eyewear history. Nearly a century on, the icons remain in production largely unchanged while a new generation of designs, from bio-based frames to the sculptural Puffer series, keeps the catalogue moving. Few brands span military kit, film wardrobes and everyday essentials in the same breath.
