Description
The Aviator is the shape Ray-Ban is built on, drawn in 1937 to a US Army Air Corps brief for a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. The Large Metal is that teardrop at full size.
The frame here is a soft satin grey, closer to brushed pewter than a polished chrome, so it reads quieter on the face than the gold and silver versions. Black temple tips and clear adjustable nose pads finish it.
The lenses are G-15 green, the classic Ray-Ban tint. Dark enough to read almost black from the outside and neutral enough to look through that colours hold their proper shape. This one runs in the 55mm, the narrower of the Large Metal widths.
