Description
The Wayfarer arrived in 1952 and the RB2140 is the one that kept the original proportions: the canted browline, the sharp outside corners, the wide temples that taper to a point. Seventy years of copies have not moved it.
Black On Transparent means exactly that. The gloss black is laminated over a clear layer, and the clear shows as a bright line running the length of the browline, down the inside of the rim and along both temples. Head on it looks like the standard black Wayfarer. Turn it slightly and the edge lights up.
The lens is a deep green, dark enough for full sun and not mirrored. The acetate front is stamped RB 2140 1294/31 50 22 150 3N inside the bridge, so the fit figures below come off the pair itself, and the 3N confirms a category 3 tint with no polarising filter.
