Description

The New Wayfarer takes the 1952 original and softens it. The front is slightly smaller, the corners are rounder and there is less of the forward tilt that made the first Wayfarer such a statement, which is why this is the version most people find easier to live in.

This is the black colourway, a flat matte finish with a blue gradient lens that sits dark across the brow and clears towards the bottom edge. The lens is polarised, so glare coming off water, wet roads and bonnets drops out rather than simply getting dimmer.

The frame is nylon, with the keyhole bridge and hinge rivets carried over from the original, and the lens sits at 55mm.

About Ray-Ban
Ray-Ban began in 1937 with a commission from the US Army Air Corps: build a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. The result became the Aviator, and the Wayfarer followed in 1952, two of the most recognised and most copied designs in eyewear history. Nearly a century on, the icons remain in production largely unchanged while a new generation of designs, from bio-based frames to the sculptural Puffer series, keeps the catalogue moving. Few brands span military kit, film wardrobes and everyday essentials in the same breath.
