Description

Ray-Ban drew the Aviator in 1937 for US Army Air Corps pilots, and the Large Metal keeps that teardrop at its original full size.

This gunmetal is on the bright side, closer to a warm silver than a charcoal, and it catches the light across the wire rims and the double bridge. Black temple tips and clear adjustable nose pads sit against it.

The lenses are a flat pale grey with a faint blue cast, even from top to bottom with no gradient and no mirror. They are a good deal lighter than the grey most people expect on an Aviator, so your eyes stay visible behind them.

About Ray-Ban
Ray-Ban began in 1937 with a commission from the US Army Air Corps: build a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. The result became the Aviator, and the Wayfarer followed in 1952, two of the most recognised and most copied designs in eyewear history. Nearly a century on, the icons remain in production largely unchanged while a new generation of designs, from bio-based frames to the sculptural Puffer series, keeps the catalogue moving. Few brands span military kit, film wardrobes and everyday essentials in the same breath.
