Description

The RB2229 is a shield. One piece of lens runs the full width of the face, flat along the top with a small notch lifted over the bridge, and the rim wraps it rather than splitting it into two.

This is the plain black version, gloss right through the front and the temples, with a single silver rivet on each arm and the Ray-Ban wordmark screened below it. The lens is a dark green, deep enough for full sun and not mirrored, so from the outside it stays flat and dark.

The bridge is stamped RB 2229 901/71 129 3N. On a shield there is no lens width or bridge measurement to give, so the frame carries only the temple length, 129mm, and the tint category. A category 3 lens, not polarised.

About Ray-Ban
Ray-Ban began in 1937 with a commission from the US Army Air Corps: build a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. The result became the Aviator, and the Wayfarer followed in 1952, two of the most recognised and most copied designs in eyewear history. Nearly a century on, the icons remain in production largely unchanged while a new generation of designs, from bio-based frames to the sculptural Puffer series, keeps the catalogue moving. Few brands span military kit, film wardrobes and everyday essentials in the same breath.
