Description

The Explorer 3 is a squared metal frame built on a double bridge, with a straight bar running across the top and a second bar at the nose. The corners are softened rather than cut sharp, so it reads as a clean rectangle rather than a hard aviator.

This is the silver colourway with dark blue lenses. The metal is bright and thin all the way through, down to the wire temples, and the black tips at the ends keep it from looking purely cold.

The lenses are polarised, so the flat glare coming off water, wet road and bonnet drops away rather than being dimmed along with everything else. It runs in two lens widths, 56mm and 59mm.

About Ray-Ban
Ray-Ban began in 1937 with a commission from the US Army Air Corps: build a lens pilots could trust against glare at altitude. The result became the Aviator, and the Wayfarer followed in 1952, two of the most recognised and most copied designs in eyewear history. Nearly a century on, the icons remain in production largely unchanged while a new generation of designs, from bio-based frames to the sculptural Puffer series, keeps the catalogue moving. Few brands span military kit, film wardrobes and everyday essentials in the same breath.
