Soleil Soleil makes what it calls "consciously designed sun essentials", and every print starts life as a hand-painted artwork. Wally is an authorised Soleil Soleil stockist, one of the few places in New Zealand you can see the prints in person. Here is the story.
The Soleil Soleil story
Soleil Soleil was founded in 2020 by Emma and Isabel, two designers who met at a Sydney textile print studio creating prints for major fashion houses. They started with the pareo, which remains the brand's signature, and built a label around a simple philosophy: "a way of dressing where a few pieces are worn again and again, each time anew". The distinctive part is the process: the founders often paint the same canvas together, and those collaborative artworks become each collection's prints.
The pieces to know
The Tully Pants are the everyday hero: 100 percent cotton, biodegradable, low-mid rise with an elasticated back and drawstring, made by a SEDEX-accredited maker. The towelling family (wrap skirts, robes, bags and pouches) is what summer bags are packed around, and the swim and Carmen pieces carry the painted prints where they belong: into the sun.
Sizing and fit
Soleil Soleil uses numeric sizing from 0 to 5, where 0 is roughly an AU 6 and 5 an AU 16. The brand's own note on the Tully Pants is that they fit true to size, and the drawstring waist gives real flexibility. If you are between sizes in fitted swim, go up.
