Rolla's NZ: Which Fit and Wash to Buy

Rolla's is Australian denim built on a narrow brief: classic cuts, vintage-referenced washes, and a fit range that changes slowly. We have carried it since 2025. Rather than run through the whole catalogue, here is how to pick a pair.

Gigi or Arc

Both are barrels. The Gigi is the original, rounded through the thigh and cropped at the ankle. The Arc is the wider, longer version of the same idea.

If you are new to the shape, start with the Gigi. The crop and the narrower leg make it the more forgiving of the two, and it works with more of what is already in your wardrobe. The Arc is the wider, longer cut and a bigger commitment to the shape, so it is the one worth trying on if you can get in. If you are choosing between them, or against the barrels from other labels we carry, our womens barrel jeans guide goes through them side by side.

Which wash

Rinse Denim is the one to start with. A clean mid-blue with no distressing, it is the least fussy about what you put it with, and it is the wash that makes the barrel shape read as denim rather than as a statement.

Vintage White is the natural second pair. It carries through spring and summer in a way the blues do not, and it is a different jean rather than a spare.

Jet Black does the same job at the other end, and dresses up more easily than either.

Across the Arc, Thunderbird and White Gold are the two to look at first, with Murmur the softer mid-blue.

Sizing

Rolla's womens denim runs waist 23 to 34, and the sizing is a real waist measurement rather than vanity sized. Start with your actual waist rather than the number you are used to buying.

The barrels sit high and fitted at the waistband, and that is what holds the leg shape. Sizing up for comfort tends to collapse the whole silhouette, so if you are between sizes it is worth trying both rather than defaulting to the larger.

Mens denim runs 28 to 38. Tees, shirts and knitwear are S to XXL.

Past the barrels

The barrel is not the only cut. Loulou Straight Long is the straight leg cut long, Sailor covers the relaxed builds, Midtown Boot is the bootcut in a coated finish, and Heidi Low is the low rise. Denim shorts run from the Charlotte through to the Super Mirage, and there is a cropped denim jacket in the same coated espresso as the Midtown.

See the lot in womens jeans.

Rolla's for men

Less well known, and worth knowing about. Ezy is the mens denim core, with the Boston, Blackburn and Blue Reef covering straight legs, plus an Ezy Barrel work pant in canvas. Bronco is the slimmer cut and Rancho the mid-blue straight. Beyond denim there are the Ezy tees, two short sleeve bowler shirts, and the Fishermans tweed crew knit.

All of it sits in mens jeans.
