Some labels chase the moment. Ricochet has been quietly shaping New Zealand fashion since 1993, which makes it one of the longest-running designer labels in the country. Wally is an authorised Ricochet stockist. Here is why thirty-plus years matters.
The Ricochet story
Ricochet was founded in 1993 by Tatjana Windhager and Nicola Gillies with a mission of "making designer clothing accessible to most women", opening their first store on Auckland's High Street in 1997. The label built its reputation on doing things its own way, including a now-legendary midnight fashion show in an Auckland carpark in 1999. In its own words, Ricochet blends "directional tailoring, deconstructed silhouettes, and sporty casual wear" with "strong Japanese inspiration... and a touch of androgyny".
The pieces to know
The current range at Wally shows the label's strengths: the Diana Top in a heavy Japanese cupro blend, the Arthur Shirt's relaxed tailoring, the Halys Denim Jean, the Fifi Polo, the Fils Cardigan and the Jesper Coat for proper winter structure. These are pieces designed to be worn for years, not seasons, and the fabric choices show it.
Sizing and fit
Ricochet runs alpha sizing from XS to L on tops, knits and outerwear, with jeans and pants in NZ numeric sizing from 6 to 14. The tailored pieces are cut with intention, so if you like extra room in a deconstructed silhouette, consider one size up; the drapier tops work true to size.
