The Afends story
Afends was born in Byron Bay in 2006, founded by Declan Wise and Jonathan Salfield off the back of a screen-printing business they originally ran making merch for punk and hardcore bands. The attitude stuck: the brand's motto is "Question Everything". The hemp focus is not marketing garnish either. Afends HQ has run on solar since 2016, the brand harvested its first hemp crop in 2022, and the stated aim is to create products "from seed to skin" while growing what they call the hemp revolution.
Why hemp
Hemp grows fast with little water, and as a fabric it is breathable, durable and softens with wear. Afends blends it cleverly: pieces like the seersucker styles mix hemp with Tencel for drape and softness. The result is clothing that feels relaxed and lived-in from the first wear, which suits the Byron-born silhouettes perfectly.

Our Afends womens range is one of the deeper ones in the country right now: dresses from the Capricorn and Lagoon families through the Rumi, Voyager, Elodie and Jesse, matching tops and skirts (the Capricorn, Sinclair and Marin run as co-ord sets), tees, shorts and the Sunny pants. Sizing runs XS to XL and the fits are easy and coastal: when in doubt between sizes, the relaxed cuts mean your usual size almost always works.
